As a child, Michael Boardman’s absolute favorite activity was traveling from his home in Connecticut to the Bronx Zoo in New York City. Absolutely captivated by the gorillas and other animals, Michael would return home to draw these animals. His animal and nature drawings have been a passion his entire life, and now Michael inspires others through his majestic watercolors, his teaching at workshops and artist residencies around the country, and the creation of uniquely amazing t-shirts.
In this interview, Michael shares how he was able to stay on his path of artistry from such a young age, and how his watercolors emerge from sitting still in nature to his final, brilliant paintings. Every summer, Michael provides the t-shirts for the children attending summer camps at the Bronx Zoo, where he was captivated by the gorillas as a child.
Michael has been honored as the Artist in Residence or Visiting Artist in Glazier Bay, Alaska, Baxter State Park, and Acadia National Park. He teaches drawing on a regular basis throughout New England. His love for nature and his passion to be outdoors is what creates his sacred work, and, in turns, lead to such prestigious acknowledgements and teaching opportunities.
