John Dennen grew up in Durban, South Africa in the 1960’s so you can imagine the challenges he had to overcome when he fell in love with his beautiful wife, Indrani, who is of Indian heritage. John and Indrani dared to challenge the Apartheid laws by opening the first Durban restaurant that welcomed people of all colors, by allowing people of color to unionize at their company, and ultimately by getting married. Today, John and Indrani help to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide hope and support for the people of South Africa, other countries, and in Maine, through Indrani’s store (Indrani’s of Brunswick, Maine) and through the Brunswick Coastal Rotary Club, of which John is a charter member.
In addition to being a radiant being, John writes and sings incredibly rich and deep soulful music, based largely on his experiences growing up in South Africa. John and Indrani are to live for and we are so grateful for their contributions to this world and their time for this interview.
